PERSONAL EFFECTIVENESS: DEVELOP A POSITIVE SELF-PERCEPTION

SCRIPTURE: “And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight”  (Numbers 13:33 KJV)

QUOTE: “What we perceive about ourselves is greatly a reflection of how we will end up living our lives” – Stephen Richards

NOTE:

One key to personal effectiveness is a positive self-perception. Personal effectiveness involves working with all of the resources available to make the progress you aspire to. This is impossible without a positive self-perception. All great achievers have one thing in common; they have a positive perception about themselves.

What idea do you have about the kind of person you are? Having a negative perception about you will affect your personal effectiveness and output as a person. Every hardworking, go-getting and high achieving person has one thing in common: a positive self-image

Your self-perception affects your attitude towards work and life in general. Although knowledge and skills are both important to being successful, you need to also shape your behaviours, as behaviours turn into habits. Develop a positive self-perception to lead you into the direction of success. Tell yourself: “I am better than this!”

ILLUSTRATION:

From our scriptural text, of the twelve spies that went to spy out the Promised Land, ten (10) of them came back with a negative report, saying, there were giants in the land. They said “we were in our own sight as grasshoppers.”(Numbers 13:33) It was their negative self-perception that denied them entry into the Promised Land.

None of them who had this ‘grasshopper’ self-perception or mentality entered the land promised to them by God. Why? Because your self-perception will ultimately affect your personal effectiveness and ultimately your lot in life. Your negative self-perception will prevent you from maximizing the gifting and resources that you have been blessed with. Your personal effectiveness will always increase or decrease to the degree of your self-perception. How do you see yourself in your own sight?

REFLECTION:

  1. What is your idea of the kind of person you are?
  2. What can you begin to do today to get rid of every negative self-perception?
