KEYS TO PERSONAL EFFECTIVENESS: BE ORGANIZED

SCRIPTURE: “But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word” (Acts 6:4 KJV)

QUOTE: “For every minute spent organizing, an hour is earned” -Benjamin Franklin

NOTE:

Personal effectiveness is an approach to success that involves utilizing all of your energy, skill and motivation to develop and reach the goals you set for yourself. This is impossible if you’re not organized. You cannot utilize all your resources for the accomplishment of your goals if you’re a disorganized person.

Organizing your life is the foundation of success in every aspect of life. You can easily stay on top of things and avoid stress by staying organized. Organizing your life is a skill that is developed over time through practice. Even if you think you are a much disorganized person, you can learn to be organized. From planning things, jotting things down, to ditching the unnecessary and organizing things that matter, you will become an organized person as long as you’re willing to learn and practice. Clutter does not just cause a disorganised desk, it causes disorganised thinking. Keeping your desk, computer files, documents and emails neat and organised will improve your focus and productivity at work.

ILLUSTRATION:

In Acts 6:1-7 as the early church grew, the Bible says there was murmurings by the Grecians against the Hebrews because their widows were neglected in the daily distribution of food. The matter was brought to the apostles with the people appealing to the apostles to take over the daily food distribution so that it is done in a way that is just and fair. The apostles responded that they couldn’t leave God’s word and serve tables. They reorganized the church by searching for and appointing honest men to do the job. The apostles gave themselves to what mattered most. The result of their sustained effectiveness was seen in Acts 6:7. The Bible says “And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith”. This is what happens when you’re organized. Your personal effectiveness is enhanced and your productivity increases

REFLECTION:

  1. Do you consider yourself an organized person?
  2. What can you begin to do today to help you become more organized?
