THE EPIGNOSIS OF THE LOVE OF GOD (2)

SCRIPTURE: “And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God.” (Ephesians 3:19 NIV)

QUOTE: “The shape of true love isn’t a diamond. It’s a cross.” – Anonymous.

NOTE:

One of the greatest prayers Paul prayed for the Ephesian Church is that they may know the love of Christ that passeth knowledge so that they can be filled with the fullness of God.

The Greek word translated knows here in this verse is ginōskō which means experiential or revelation knowledge. It also means perceived knowledge, to be allowed to be aware of,. Paul is praying that the Ephesian Church will have an experiential understanding of the love of Christ, this knowledge is not taught in the classroom, rather it is experienced or it is revealed to you.

No one merits the love of Christ to the extent that while we were yet sinners, the love of God was expressed to us. The greatest proof of the love of Christ to you is the CROSS. If God could send His son to die for you when you were His enemy, then there is NOTHING He cannot do for you.

ILLUSTRATION:

Many denominations are ascribing to God attributes that are not in His nature. Jesus Christ came to reveal the true essence of who God is to us. Jesus said, God gives His rain to the good and to the unjust, despite the wickedness of man, God does not withhold His blessings and grace from man. The nature of God is love and our nature is contrary to the nature of God until we are introduced to experience Christ which is the express expression of God’s love. It is our responsibility therefore to dispense this love to everyone around us, either far or near.

REFLECTION:

  1. How well do you express this love of God to your brethren?
