SCRIPTURE: “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.” Matt. 13:44
QUOTE: “A faithful friend is a shelter; the man who finds one has found a great treasure.” Author unknown
NOTES:
Nothing can take the place of affection; those who have it generously have a magic wand over men. Intellect will not do; Bible knowledge is not enough.” – A W Tozer. God has so wired man to depend on one another to some degree. He said, “it is not good for man to be alone.” Whatever God says is not good, is definitely very bad. Unfortunately genuine friends are in short supply in today’s world. “The most I can be for my friend is simply be his friend.” –Henry D. Thoreau
There is need to build quality friendship at every phase of our earthly sojourn. Position, power or some level of prosperity can never remove the need for other people. “Two are better than one because they have a good reward for their labour.” Ecc. 4:9. The world we live in today is filled with lonely people. No wonder the rate of suicide is on the increase-loneliness is cidal to the human soul. That is why when the devil wants to destroy a man; he isolates him from the company of those that could help him. But God has made us for companionship-companionship with God and with man. However, what we see today is that you can be surrounded by a crowd of people and still be in dire need of true friendship.
ILLUSTRATION:
When you find a true friend, do your best to maintain the touch. Friendship is like an automobile, it needs constant maintenance and repair from wear and tear, without which it can breakdown become rusty for lack of touch.
REFFLECTION:
- How many of your true friends are you still in-touch with?
- What mile can you go with that friend?
