LIES IN LEADERSHIP 2

SCRIPTURE: “Ye have plowed wickedness, ye have reaped iniquity; ye have eaten the fruit of lies: because thou didst trust in thy way, in the multitude of thy mighty men.” (Hosea 10:13 (KJV)

QUOTE: “is an occupational hazard that anyone who has spent her life learning how to lie eventually becomes bad at telling the truth”. -Ally Carter

NOTE:

The difficulty about being so engrossed in lying is that the speaking of the truth will suddenly become an enormous task. Any leadership system where the truth prevails is one where integrity, stability, purity and sustainability stands as essential ingredients for upward leaps. The prevalence of lies within any organization can crumble and destroy it overtime, because everything will be built on falsehood, pretense, corruption and pride. This is portrayed in the leadership system of the tribe of Ephraim and Judah from our text. Let’s focus on compulsive pathological liars. Unlike telling the occasional white lie to avoid hurting someone’s feelings or getting in trouble, a pathological liar seems to lie for no apparent reason.

These are lies that are entirely made-up or framed up for the need to drive attention towards its beneficiary. Leaders involved in compulsive lying tell lies even when telling the truth would have been easier and better; what matters most to them is the attention the lies will give them. It’s quite ridiculous and at the same time extremely tragic. Compulsive Liars typically find it difficult to stop lying as it is more of a habit for them. Most politicians are experts in this trade.

ILLUSTRATION:

It’s difficult to know how to deal with a pathological liar who may not always be conscious of their lying. Some do it so often that experts believe they may not know the difference between fact and fiction after some time. Pathological liars also tend to be natural performers. They’re eloquent and know how to engage with others when speaking. They’re creative and original, and quick thinkers who don’t usually show common signs of lying, such as long pauses or avoidance of eye contact. When asked questions, they may speak a lot without ever being specific or answering the question.

REFLECTION:

  1. As a leader how would you help a pathological Liar in your team or organization?
