SCRIPTURE: “But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should not be disqualified.” (1Corinthians 9:27)
QUOTE: “Mastering others is strength. Mastering yourself is true power.” –Lao Tzu
NOTE:
Discipline will always make demands in every assignment the leader is engaged in. This is reflected in the leader’s discipline to work within the set deadlines, adherence to all guidelines and instructions, and keeping to the frame of the contracts. We can see from today’s scripture that it takes discipline to keep the body under intense subjection, so the leader can take charge and control over the several challenges they go through daily. Daniel and his companions purposed in their hearts not to defile themselves with the king’s food however they were conscious of the demands it would place on them, so they were up ready to starve instead of eating from the king’s table. They were disciplined enough not to be carried away by the variety and tastiness of the food presented in the palace of the king of Babylon.
ILLUSTRATION:
We saw how Daniel according to Bible history, was highly disciplined in his steadfastness towards his God. Daniel was so determined and decided not to defile himself with the sumptuous delicacies on the king’s table. Those were meals everyone will yearn for all day but Daniel rejected them. Thus, by discipline, he ended as a star who prospered in leadership for 65 years in the reigns of five different kings and he remained a revered consultant to every subsequent leader of that nation (Daniel 1:8).
