BUILDING A TRANSFORMATIONAL TEAM 1: START WITH YOU!

SCRIPTURE: “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.” (John 14:1–3).

QUOTE: “Nothing starts until you start” -Anonymous

NOTE:

Just like our quote puts it, “nothing starts until you start. A transformational team is not a wish, it is hard work, and this hard work must first become evident in your life as a leader. Nobody wants to follow a mediocre. Your charisma will begin to lose value once the people can decipher you are nowhere near the standards you set and enforce for them to follow. Hence, you must first commit yourself to sincere and achievable standards of transformation before you demand it from your team. You must consistently ask yourself:

  1. Are my expectations a visible feature of my current life?
  2. Is the team learning from my example?
  3. Am I constantly improving myself?

You must set the tone for the kind of team you are looking at building. Remember,
your team will most likely not grow beyond you. Team members will not be
transformational if you don’t show it in your day-to-day approach to events.

ILLUSTRATION:

God never asks for what he hasn’t put in you. He said be righteous, holy, pure, standout, transformational, etc only because on the cross, he put all that ability in you. He that is joined with Christ is one spirit 1Cor. 6:17. His spirit resides in you hence he can demand standards according to his spirit in you. He said to his disciples behold, I have given you the power to tread upon serpents and scorpions and nothing shall by any means hurt you Luke 10:19. It started with Christ. It started with him dying on the cross.

REFLECTION:

  1. Is your quest for a transformational team starting with you?
  2. What are the things you need to improve to build a transformational team?
