BUILDING A TRANSFORMATIONAL TEAM 2: LEAD TOWARDS A GOAL

SCRIPTURE: “Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.  (1Timothy 4:12)

QUOTE: “If what you are doing is not moving you towards your goals, then it’s moving you away from your goals.” –Brian Tracy

NOTE: Leadership as we all know is a very serious business. Heaven and earth consider it so, no wonder even God scrutinizes completely before selecting a leader for his people; the story of how David became king attests vividly to this. Building a transformational team as a leader requires leading towards a goal. To lead towards a goal, there must first be a goal. Your team member can tell if you are following a course or just whiling away their time. Goals birth people, people birth action, action birth result, and result is a standard output of a transformational team.

ILLUSTRATION:

Jesus knew his end game from the very beginning. He wasn’t second-guessing it otherwise the destiny-diverting suggestion of Peter would have made more sense to him. From the beginning, he knew his primary assignment aside from other extras was to die for the sins of man and to repair the cracked relationship that existed between God and humanity. This clear goal we see impacted greatly his style of leadership. His team could perceive his end game from the way he led them. He was focused on building a team that will change the course of history. He was focused on building a transformational team.

REFLECTION:

  1. Are you leading towards a goal?
  2. What’s your game?
