BUILDING A TRANSFORMATIONAL TEAM: SHOW EMPATHY

SCRIPTURE: “Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ. If you think you are too important to help someone, you are only fooling yourself. You are not that important. (Galatians 6:2-3)

QUOTE: “Empathy has no script. There is no right way or wrong way to do it. It’s simply listening, holding space, withholding judgment, emotionally connecting, and communicating that incredibly healing message of ‘You’re not alone.” -Brene Brown

NOTE:

Members of your team are bound to make mistakes and feel less of themselves.

As a leader with the goal of building a transformational team, it is part of your job description to show them empathy at their weakest points. Just like our quote beautifully puts it, empathy has no right or wrong way of doing it, what is most important is, that it is done. As leaders, we must always remember our actions are trans-individual, they go beyond the person directly at the receiving end. Many more will be led that same way, transferring less and less empathy as time goes by. Our major job is to build a team that can successfully build others in a way that is ideal.

ILLUSTRATION:

One of the biggest examples of empathy can be seen in Christ. Imagine if He was cruel if He dealt with us according to who we truly are. If he begins to count iniquity who can stand Psalm 130:3 but rather, He was bruised for our iniquity  His empathy goes beyond just feeling our pain to taking it away himself, offering us complete escape in salvation. According as his divine power has given us all things that pertain to life and godliness through the knowledge of Him who has called us to glory and virtue. 1Peter 1:3. Little wonder He was able to build a movement taking the world by storm. If we must do greater things, we must start from the foundation of empathy.

REFLECTION:

  1. What’s your empathy level?
  2. How can you improve it to build a better team?
