SCRIPTURE: “The prudent understand where they are going, but fools deceive themselves.” (Proverbs 14: 8 NIV)
QUOTE: “If you don’t know where you are going, you’ll end up someplace else.” -Yogi Berra
NOTE:
Goal setting is analogous to knowing your destination before you set out in your journey. You need to know where you’re going in order to get there. As a leader you must decide what you really want. Once you know your life’s purpose, determine your vision, and clarify what your true needs are. Then you move on to convert them into specific, measurable goals and objectives, and then you act on them with a certainty and confidence that you will achieve them. If you want to ever succeed in life, you must drive yourself with GOALS.
ILLUSTRATION:
Goals are the map that will guide you toward your God-given purpose. Without setting them you will wander in circles without getting where you need to go. Jesus knew His mission and purpose. Luke 19:10 “For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost”. Jesus had a sense of destiny. He knew where he wanted to go. He knew where people needed him (John 4; 3). God desires for us to live on purpose, not by accident nor chance. The alternative to goal setting is wandering around aimlessly, letting life happen to you.
REFLECTION:
- Where do I want to be?
- What do I need to do?
