TIME MANAGEMENT SKILLS 1: VALUE YOURSELF

SCRIPTURE: “Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows. – (Matthew 10:31)

QUOTE: “Until you value yourself, you will not value your time. Until you value your time, you will not do anything with it.” -M. Scott Peck

NOTE:

In order to value time, we must understand our value. Our scriptural text tells us that we’re not valueless but valuable. We are made in the image and likeness of the God who created all things. We are creatures of value and there is a divine purpose over our lives. Understanding this is so important if we’re going to live life to the fullest and maximize our time. Grasping this truth is vital because our self-perception will affect how we use our time. Those with a negative self-perception do not live life to the fullest and do not maximize their time. They waste their life by wasting their time. Rather than maximize or invest their time, they waste it because of a lack of understanding of their true self-worth. Highly effective people have a healthy self-worth and they consider themselves too valuable to waste their time on frivolous or unproductive activities. The value you have for yourself will determine how you use your time. If you don’t think much of yourself, there is a tendency that you’ll waste your time. If you understand your true worth, you will not waste your time.

ILLUSTRATION:

American technologist and fintech entrepreneur, Merrill Douglas said “time is life. To waste your time is to waste your life”. If you love life, don’t waste time for time is what life is made of hence the term “lifetime”. In other words, time is the unit of life. Therefore, time wasting is actually life wasting. A person who doesn’t understand the value of their life will waste their life by wasting their time.

REFLECTION:

  1. Do you have a healthy self-worth? What are some activities you can do to enhance your self-perception?
  2. Are you a time waster? To what degree do you maximize your time
