SCRIPTURE: “Let the word of Christ live in you richly, flooding you with all wisdom. Apply the Scriptures as you teach and instruct one another with the Psalms, and with festive praises, and with prophetic songs given to you spontaneously by the Spirit, so sing to God with all your hearts!” (Colossians 3:16 TPT)
QUOTE: “You will get all you want in life, if you help enough other people get what they want.” – Zig Ziglar
NOTE:
When we want to discover the will of God, we are to be open to receiving wisdom and guidance from other mature believers. Throughout the New Testament we are taught the importance of the functioning body of Christ. Wisdom can be a leader’s best friend, especially in times of decision. Suppose you find yourself in a large committee meeting in which a crucial decision must be made. The committee reaches an impasse and everything stops. Who will become the most influential person in that room? Answer: the one with the wisdom to draw a conclusion that not only works, but which receives the blessing of that committee!
ILLUSTRATION:
When Saul (Paul) and Barnabas were called and commissioned to embark on their first missionary journey into the Gentile world, the Holy Spirit spoke directly to these “Prophets and Teachers”. Though this was an extraordinary event, we must not miss the inherent supracentral principle. When these two dynamic Christian leaders were set apart for a missionary ministry “to the ends of the earth” (Acts1:8), their calling was affirmed by three other godly men. This corporate affirmation reflects the importance of mature godly members of the Christian community helping other members of that community to determine the will of God.
REFLECTION:
Though God uses other Christians to help us determine His will, why must this kind of wisdom be based first and foremost on God’s revealed truth in Scripture?
