SCRIPTURE: “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (Mark 10:45 KJV)
QUOTE: “Servanthood does not nullify leadership; it defines it. Jesus did not cease to be the Lion of the tribe of Judah when He became the lamblike servant of the church” —John Piper
NOTE:
Servanthood in leadership refers to the ability of a leader to act selflessly and put the needs of others before their own. Savvy leaders are able to identify the needs of their team and organization and take actions that will benefit others. They are able to balance the interests of different stakeholders and make decisions that create value for everyone involved. A true leader is a servant leader, one who puts the needs of others before their own. As you lead, focus on serving and supporting those around you.
ILLUSTRATION:
Mother Teresa, a Catholic nun is the perfect example of a leader with complete understanding of servanthood. She dedicated her life to serving the poor and sick. She was known for her selfless service and her deep commitment to helping others. She established hospices (a home providing care for the sick or terminally ill), orphanages, and clinics around the world to serve the poorest of the poor, and her leadership was marked by a deep empathy and compassion for those she served. She put the needs of others before her own, living a simple and austere life, and her leadership served as an inspiration for many people around the world.
REFLECTION:
Is your leadership characterized by servanthood?
