GOAL SETTING 5

SCRIPTURE: “For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”        (Luke 19:10 KJV)

QUOTE: You want to set a goal that is big enough that in the process of achieving it you become someone worth becoming. -Jim Rohn

NOTE:

BHAG (Big Hairy Audacious Goal) is a compelling, long-term goal that is intriguing enough to inspire you to take action. In goal setting ensure that you set goals that will stretch you. It pays to have goals that will require you to grow to achieve them. It is a good thing to have some goals that make you a little uncomfortable. The Law of the Rubber Band states that your personal and professional growth stops when you lose the tension between where you are and where you could be. If you were asked, do you want to set good goals for the incoming year, it must be such that stretches you. Does anybody desire a great 2023, I’m sure you would answer with a resounding “yes!” It’s been said, true life begins at the end of our comfort zone, and we arrive there by stretching. In their book, Collins and Porras pointed to a number of well-known mission statements—BHAGs that galvanized organizations to achieve incredible results. The most powerful example is President Kennedy’s 1961 famous declaration: “This nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to earth.” The result, of course, was a historic moon landing in 1969.

ILLUSTRATION:

The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;” (Isa. 61:1 KJV).

REFLECTION:

  1. What would a BHAG be for you?
  2. How ready are you to stretch?
