TIME MANAGEMENT SKILLS 5: DEVELOP RIGHT HABITS

SCRIPTURE: “Someone will say, “I am allowed to do anything.” Yes; but not everything is good for you. I could say that I am allowed to do anything, but I am not going to let anything make me its slave.” 1 Corinthians 6:12

QUOTE: “The secret of your future is hidden in your daily routine.” -Mike Murdock

NOTE:

Time management is crucial to getting the most out of your day. Not having a plan to manage your time can leave you overwhelmed and behind task. Great time management is closely connected to managing habits. If you develop the right habits in life, good time management happens by itself. Your lifestyle or your habits will determine how well you maximize your time. Regularly exercising, starting the day with the hardest task, going to sleep early enough, saying ‘no’ to things that you don’t like etc. – these are all habits on which good time management is based.

If you know how to hack your habits, you can also put your time management on autopilot. Other habits that can make for effective time management are: staying realistic when setting goals; creating a schedule and sticking to it; setting few priorities, breaking goals into small actionable items; etc. These habits form the bedrock for effective time management.

ILLUSTRATION:

It is impossible to manage or maximize time when certain habits are in place. A habit is an acquired behavior pattern regularly followed until it has become almost involuntary or second nature. When something becomes a habit, it saves brain power as we do not need to think about it. It sets out a Habit Loop. A sincere desire to maximize time can be sabotaged by certain habits. Examples of some of these habits are: the inability to say ‘no’ to unessential activities; the inability to consistently break goals into small actionable items; the inability to plan etc. The result you get in life is not a product of what you do once in a while but a product of what you habitually do. Cultivating the right habits is foundational for effective time management

REFLECTION:

  1. Do you lead a lifestyle that sabotages your sincere desire for effective time management
  2. What habits or habits must you cultivate that will help for effective time management?
