MENTORSHIP 2

QUOTE: “A mentor is someone who allows you to see the hope inside yourself.” —Oprah Winfrey

NOTE:

Mentorship is walking in the steps of giants so as to become a giant. It is only true disciples that become great apostles as reflected from our text today in Matt. 4:19 where Jesus spoke clearly to his disciples on following keenly so he can make them to emerge as giants and trail blazers in future.  Only true follows become great leaders. When mentees follow properly in leadership, it turns their wilderness into a fruitful field and their desert into overflowing streams of joy by adherence to the instructions of whosoever is their coach.

Mentorship is solely about followership.  Followership is no cheap talk but hard work and it is the value we place on following that determines the price we are ready to pay for it. For example, in the car industry, the amount you pay in buying, will determine the quality of car you’ll get; e.g., Brand new, or fairly used etc. Therefore, in followership, as you pay the price of dedication and addiction to the demands of stewardship (as a mentee), you will emerge a good mentor in future.

ILLUSTRATION:

On earth to perform and gain significance, Jesus had to call the twelve and mentored them. Matthew 4:18-22. Jesus the great teacher and miracle worker reckoned to no other but saw that the easiest way to lead and leave a mark on planet earth was by mentorship. So immediately he started ministry, his first assignment was to look for men that can be taught and trained so as to carry the same grace he had. Out of the twelve Jesus mentored as his disciples, eleven stood out while one of them called Judas lost it and died prematurely because he was not following passionately.

REFLECTION:

  1. Are you are practicing mentee?
  2. How will you classify or describe your mentor?
