MENTORSHIP 7

SCRIPTURE: “As an eagle stirs up its nest, Hovers over its young, Spreading out its wings, taking them up, Carrying them on its wings, So the Lord alone led him…” (Deuteronomy 32:11-12 NKJV)

QUOTE: “Show me a successful individual and I’ll show you someone who had real positive influences in his or her life. I don’t care what you do for a living—if you do it well I’m sure there was someone cheering you on or showing the way. A mentor.” —Denzel Washington

NOTE:

Mentors are the platforms and feathers with which we fly. They give feathers to us for our flight as reflected by how God mentored Jacob and the resultant effect on his life as noticed from our text today.   Mentors are like feathers that empowers us to soar into greater heights. Mentorship is staying on the steps of the platform deliberately to understand by example how effectively we can climb that platform.

Every platform requires a step to get there. You will never get there without the steps. You can’t see further and farther without standing on the shoulders of those who have gone ahead of you. This is what mentoring is all about.

ILLUSTRATION:

Every bird is eligible to fly and can easily fly without difficulty but with ease, because it has wings and have learnt from the examples of the older birds. The reason men can’t fly (like birds) is because we don’t have feathers, and that is what differentiates us from Angels. It’s the mother eagle who trained the eaglet to fly by embracing and carrying them on their feathers. Mentors help develop your wings and feathers to fly.

REFLECTION:

  1. How teachable are you?
