LOVE REMINDERS: LOVE IS COMMITMENT

SCRIPTURE “Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” (1 Corinthians 13:7 KJV)

QUOTE:Love is not really a mystery. It is a process like anything else. A process that requires trust, effort, focus and commitment by two willing partners.” – Elizabeth Bourgeret

NOTE:

The willingness to give your time, energy and self to someone you believe in, is a dimension of love. Commitment is to be dedicated. This kind of commitment is not borne out of emotion but an intentional decision to love someone regardless of their disposition. This was the dimension of love God Himself expressed towards us. A love not hinged on what the other can do or give, but driven by your own loyalty and trust value. This kind of commitment is also an obligation that restrict freedom of action. It means putting others first before acting. It’s an expression of constraining your excesses and taming your tendencies for the sake of the one you love. As believers, the love of God constrains us (2 Corinthians 5:14). We cannot live anyhow because of His love bestowed on us. The same way, we must be circumspect to all the relationships around us.

ILLUSTRATION:

Joseph the son of Jacob got an offer from the highly place Potiphar’s wife. An offer that was too good to resist. “Sleep with me and live the rest of your days in splendor” the woman said. But Joseph answer was that of loyalty, trust and commitment to his love for God and that of his master. He said “How can I do this great wickedness and sin against God?”

REFLECTION:

Does your disposition in words and conduct prove your commitment to your spouse/partner?
