ESSENTIAL LEADERSHIP DECISIONS FOR PERFORMANCE OPTIMIZATION: CHOOSE TO BE HAPPY

SCRIPTURE: “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” (Matthew 6:34 KJV)

QUOTE: “Don’t waste your time in anger, regrets, worries, and grudges. Life is too short to be unhappy. – Roy T. Bennett

NOTE:

If you say life is too good, you are correct. And if you say life is too tough, you are perfectly right. Even God hardly argues with men on that. The law of Genesis is still at work; whatever you call it, that’s its name! But here is a godly and a friendly counsel; deliberately choose to be happy. We are not insulated from the real challenges of life; the good times and the not too good times, wet and dry seasons, times of sowing and reaping etc. We can however choose how to respond to these varying moments of life. We can count it all joy at all times. And here are some practical ways to do that:

  1. Settle it upfront in your heart that God is constantly good regardless of the situation or the circumstance. He has your best interest at heart.
  2. Be persuaded that at whatever level you are at, you are actually in the middle of a long queue. While some people are definitely ahead of you, some other people are behind you. You are someone’s prayer request. Your case is not the worst.
  • Be grateful for life and for every blessing of God in your life.
  1. Celebrate your victories and progress, no matter how little they look
  2. Quickly forgive and let go of hurts and offences. It is for your own good.
  3. Create moments to laugh. It is good medicine.

ILLUSTRATION:

Late Dr. Myles Munroe once attended a speaking engagement with his wife. At a point in the meeting with the women, she was asked if her husband (Dr. Myles) had made her happy in their marital journey. Her answer was a pleasant surprise; she said NO! And then she explained: it is never his duty to make me happy; it is my legitimate choice to be happy or not. Nothing can be truer.

REFLECTION:

Given just one opportunity, what is that ONE IMPORTANT THING you will choose to focus on for maximum happiness?
